General services read-a-thon

6/1/2021

General Services is starting its biggest fundraiser yet...the first annual General Services Read-A-Thon! This year, all profits that we make through our Read-A-Thon will go to Book Harvest, an organization that provides an abundance of books and ongoing literacy support to families and their children from birth. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for Book Harvest through this year’s Read-A-Thon, and we want you to help us reach it!

How does the Read-A-Thon work?

Essentially, participants will be able to raise money and earn prizes through reading!

When a student registers, a personalized fundraising page will be created for them, which they can then send to friends and family to collect one-time donations or pledge donations of “x” dollar amount per reading time. The more they read, the more they raise! As a participant starts raising money, they will qualify for earning cool prizes!

*Once you have logged in, be sure to send out your fundraising page to 10 of your friends/family members. Once you do so, you are eligible for earning a certificate!

Why should I get involved?

For many children, learning stops once the school year ends. Our aim is to foster curiosity and encourage participants to continue exploring and stimulating their mind during the summer. Children will be able to engage and interact with others in a COVID-friendly manner through our virtual events and celebrations. Finally, not only are you helping your child develop a passion for reading and learning, but you are helping someone else’s child by providing them with access to books, literacy support, and other educational resources.

How can I support the Read-A-Thon?

You do not need to be a registered participant to support the Read-A-Thon. You can support our cause in the following ways:

  • Encourage students you know to register in the Read-A-Thon, click here for more information on registration.

  •  Let us know if you are in touch with an organization that is interested in sponsoring the Read-A-Thon through a gift match or a one-time flat donation.

  • Donate to our GoFundMe, your donation will go to Book Harvest.

  • Purchase items on our Amazon Wish List, by doing this you are helping us pay for prizes that will go to participants.
